Laptop or phone — pick your depth
Two honest routes. The VCX Nano is the laptop route: it pairs with your licensed OEM software for full-system diagnostics, adaptation channels, basic settings and control-module coding — the deep end. OBDeleven is the phone route: a small Bluetooth dongle plus an app with pre-built one-click apps for the common retrofits. Most enthusiasts start with OBDeleven and graduate to the Nano when they want everything.
What people actually change
Needle sweep, cornering lights, comfort windows, lap timer on the MFD, mirror dip on reverse, seatbelt chime, Auto Start-Stop memory. Beyond the cosmetic stuff: throttle body adaptation, DPF regeneration status, EPB service mode, injector coding after replacement, and reading the fault memory of every module rather than only the engine.
MQB, MLB and the newer platforms
Newer VAG platforms tightened access, and some functions now need online/GeKo authorisation regardless of interface. Everything on this page reads and diagnoses across the range; how deep coding goes depends on the chassis and your software licence.
